Message I have run several cars well past 100K (VWs, Civics) and couple over 200K (Mustang 5.0, Volvo 240T wagon). The key to keeping a car going that long (mechanically speaking) is to repair what breaks shortly after it does and not wait till a bunch of stuff accumulates. The single reason none of my cars kept on gathering miles was collisions. Two rear endings, 2 t-bones and others. I am a meachanical enthusiast, once there unibody is damaged I am done with the car. No more main part to hang others from.
All but one of these, the Mustang, was an ethusiast car with perofirmance options that stress the motor. Interestingly thas was the the one I used till the ODO hit 223,000 when a distracted driver hit it in the rear while I was stopped at a light. He was going about 50 mph. Both doors popped and never closed again. It was then, over 7 years ago, that that I got the Z. It is a weekend driver and I hope this status protects it from the inevitable end all my cas have suffered.
